Where is La Basse Boulais?

It is situated about 1.5 mile south east of the village of Gael, which is itself some 5 km South of St. Meen–Le-Grand in central Brittany.


Are there any shops nearby?

Gael is a small rural village it has 2 boulangeries, a small shop, a bar/restaurant, a bar tabac and a micro brewery/bar. St Meen-Le-Grande approx. 5 km away, has banks, 2 large supermarkets with petrol facilities, restaurants, pharmacy, bars, vets and an open air market on a Saturday. Plelan-le –Grand approx. 18 km away has banks, supermarket, restaurants, pharmacy, bars, vets, an open air market on a Sunday morning. Hypermarkets are on the outskirts of Rennes- 30 mins away.


How do you get there?

The easiest routes are by ferry from the UK via Portsmouth, Plymouth or Poole to any of the Brittany or Normandy ports.. The closest port being St Malo, approx journey time from St Malo to La Basse Boulais is 45 minutes to 1 hour. Other routes from the UK and approx. travelling times from the French ports to La Basse Boulais are shown below, these include: Roscoff – 2 hrs Caen – 2.5hrs Cherbourg – 2.5hrs Le Harve – 3 hrs Dover to Calais – 6 hrs

Flights are available from selected airports

  • East Midlands, Stansted, Leeds/Bradford, Bristol, Channel Islands all fly to Dinard – approx. time to La Basse Boulais from here is 45 minutes to 1hr.
  • Birmingham and Southampton fly to Brest - approx. time to La Basse Boulais from here is 2hrs 30min
  • Manchester, Exeter and Southampton to Rennes - approx. time to La Basse Boulais from here is 40min


Is there a TV?

Yes. Freesat tv is provided which allows you to keep in touch with the UK should you wish to.


Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes. This is usually very reliable but, as with all technology, there can be the odd blip.


Are linen and towels included?

Yes. We provide bedding, bath towels, tea towels and bath mats. We do not provide swimming or beach towels. If you are planning to use fake tan or hair dyes while here, please be sure to bring spare towels/sheets to use as any stained linen will be charged for.


Is cleaning included?

We ask our guests to leave the gite clean and tidy, exactly how they find it on arrival. This means wiping down surfaces, sweeping and hoovering, emptying the dishwasher, cleaning and putting away all crockery/cutlery, cleaning the BBQ, wiping down highchairs, emptying all fridges, rubbish and putting any furniture back where it belongs.

We reserve the right to charge (by deducting from the security deposit) any costs incurred for cleaning in returning the gite to the required condition for the next guests.

We provide cleaning products, and some basic household products such as toilet rolls and dishwasher tablets to get you started.

What will the weather be like?

In general, we don’t experience the very hot temperatures of the South of France. Spring is warm and the summer warmer still. In Summer you may expect temperatures between 18-25°C during the day time, cooler at night. Recent summers have had temperatures over 30°C.
